Montour

Montour County, in the heart of Pennsylvania, is home to rural farmlands, state game lands, state forests, nature preserves and the Susquehanna River and its tributaries. Almost 20,000 acres of state game land in the area are used for hunting, boating, hiking, bird watching and nature study while there are plenty of lakes and streams for the fishing of bass, trout, muskie, pickerel and many other fish.

 

 

Northumberland

Countless generations have traveled through the Susquehanna River Valley and the area that is now Northumberland County. Some were passing through while others came to make this place their home. The county grew and developed over the years. First having an agricultural-based economy, the building of the canals and railroads and the discovery of anthracite coal brought industry and immigrant laborers from many ethnic backgrounds to the area shifting the county’s economy toward a more industrial focus.

Columbia

 

Formed March 22, 1813 out of Northumberland County, and named for Columbia, a poetic name for the United States that alludes to the great Italian explorer, Christopher Columbus.

Snyder

Snyder County took its name from 

its most famous citizen and political 

figure, Simon Snyder, the third governor of Pennsylvania. Snyder County is famous for its Pennsylvania German language and culture, its agricultural heritage, and it is known for its fraktur, Kentucky rifles, wood products industries, the Beaver Furnace, Susquehanna University, Rolling Green Park, the Kearns Car, and the many fairs, festivals, and auctions that keep its heritage alive.

Union

 

Union County was created on March 22, 1813 from part of Northumberland County. Its name is an allusion to the federal Union. Its county seat is Lewisburg.
